The corregimiento of Saña and the historical problem of the foundation of Trujillo [I]
Keywords:
Conquest, Trujillo, Atahualpa, Alvarado, Chimú, YuncasAbstract
Cabero conducts an extensive historical analysis starting with the pre-Columbian history of northern Peru, until the capture of Atahualpa in Cajamarca. He details the imprisonment and execution of the Inca, Pizarro's march towards Cusco, and the foundation of cities such as Jauja. The expedition of Pedro de Alvarado, his disastrous passage through the Andes, and his subsequent economic agreement with Almagro are examined. The author discusses the foundation of Trujillo, entrusted to Miguel de Estete in the Chimú valley. The second half of the text is dedicated to the ethnography of the northern peoples (Yuncas, Tallancas, Mochicas), describing their clothing, burial customs, and religious beliefs, such as the worship of the Moon and the Sea. Finally, it narrates the Inca expansion northward, the resistance of the Great Chimú, and the fall of the Kingdom of Quito under Huayna Cápac.
