José Toribio Polo reviews the work of Monsignor Carlos García Irigoyen published to commemorate the third centenary of the death of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo. Polo highlights that this publication seeks to perpetuate the work of the distinguished prelate who led the Peruvian Church for twenty-five years. The first volume covers the background of his appointment, his arrival in Lima, the description of the metropolitan church, and his pastoral visits. The second volume details the Archbishop's quarrels with Viceroys García Hurtado de Mendoza and Luis de Velasco in defense of his jurisdiction, as well as his death in Saña. Polo praises the author for not limiting himself to narrating miracles but for presenting unpublished documents from the Archive of the Indies that clarify national history and reveal the Saint's inflexible character in the fulfillment of his duty. The future publication of catechisms in Quechua and Aymara and council acts is announced.
