Abstract

González de La Rosa presents a radical revisionist thesis regarding the history of Christopher Columbus. The author argues that the famous letters and maps attributed to the astronomer Paolo Toscanelli are forgeries created to give a scientific basis to the discovery, which, according to him, came from the secret of an unknown pilot and not from science. González de La Rosa denies the existence of Canon Fernando Martins and maintains that Columbus did not consult the book Imago Mundi before 1494. Furthermore, he proposes a new chronology: Columbus was born in 1451, arrived in Portugal accidentally after a naval battle in 1476, and married a granddaughter, not daughter, of Perestrello. He asserts that the Columbian project is later than 1484 and that Columbus fled Portugal for political reasons linked to the Braganzas, presenting these conclusions as definitive solutions based on years of research.
