Carlos Alberto Romero introduces the unpublished work of Friar Reginaldo de Lizárraga, written in the early 17th century. A biography of the Friar is provided. Lizárraga was born in Medellín (Spain), he arrived in Quito as an adolescent and traveled the viceroyalty for fifty years. Romero details the structure of the book, divided into a geographical and a historical part, and highlights curious facts, such as the origin of the wall in La Raya, Vilcanota, and the fate of the golden font of the Sun temple in Cuzco, lost by the conquistador Mancio Sierra in gambling. The author has sometimes harsh opinions of the Natives. He also defenses certain rulers like the Marquis of Cañete.
