Abstract

In this bibliographic note, Max Uhle reviews Adolfo Vienrich's work on the folklore of Tarma. Uhle positively values the collection of fables, yaravíes, and indigenous oral literature, considering it a fundamental task for the preservation of Andean culture. However, he critiques the book's introduction for containing linguistic theories lacking scientific rigor, such as linking Quechua with Asian or Aztec languages, noting they are far from modern science. Uhle takes the opportunity to discuss the expansion of Quechua, arguing against multiple migratory currents and maintaining that the language arrived in the north (Quito) through the Inca conquest, where it was adapted regionally.
