This summary introduces the first number of the Revista Histórica, an official organ of the Historical Institute of Peru, founded upon supreme decree by President José Pardo in order to foster the knowledge of the national history. The statutes from 1905 establish that the publication will be quarterly and has as one of its objective, among others, to publish historical sources and thus facilitate the work of future historians who wish to reconstruct the country’s history. The journal's editorial board emphasizes that it will accept contributions that fit the scientific nature of the institution, always prioritizing unpublished material, except in cases of reproductions of extremely rare books necessary for research. Finally, the goal is that this publication become a worthy manifestation of Peru's intellectual advancement and that the seed would not fall on sterile ground.
