Abstract

Jorge Polar offers a philosophical discourse on Peruvian history during the Institute’s inauguration. He analyzes the mysterious origins of man in the American continent, and the nature of the Inca empire, describing it politically as an authoritarian socialism that invalid any individual liberty and the sentiment of homeland. He examines the fusion of the Quechua race with the Spanish, describing the latter by its Latin and adventurous spirit; furthermore he outlines how miscegenation and the colony prepared the way for Independence. The minister exhorts the Institute to use history as an educational tool to strengthen the sense of national belonging, thus overcoming social divisions and teaching new generations to love Peru.
