Abstract

Cabero conducts an extensive historical analysis of northern Peru, beginning with Pizarro's arrival and the civil war between Huáscar and Atahualpa. He describes the Chimú civilization, its valleys, and its great riches extracted from the Huacas of Chanchán, of Toledo, and of the Bishop during the colonial period. The core of the study addresses the foundation of Trujillo, presenting documents, such as a letter from Francisco Pizarro to the King, which demonstrates that it was the Adelantado Diego de Almagro who founded the town on December 6th, 1534, and not Pizarro, who subsequently installed the council. The Royal Decree of Charles V granting the coat of arms to the city is transcribed; the article describes the construction of its walls under the government of the Duke of La Palata. Finally, the first mayors and councilors are listed are mentioned, and ends with some aspects of the independence time.
