This article narrates the background and development of the war between Peru and Colombia in 1828-1829. It describes the diplomatic conflict with Bolívar and the Peruvian invasion of present-day Ecuador under the command of President José de la Mar. Naval operations are detailed, including the death of Admiral Guisse and the taking of Guayaquil, as well as the land campaign that culminated in the Battle of Portete de Tarqui. The author analyzes the Peruvian tactical errors, the defeat against Marshal Sucre, and the subsequent Treaty of Girón. Finally, it recounts the overthrow of La Mar by General Gamarra and the definitive signing of peace.
